Todd Maki’s First Quarter Fundraising:
Fertile Ground for Grassroots
Boca Raton– Todd Maki, candidate for Florida House District 87, having only recently announcing his candidacy, has seen a swell of grassroots backing from college volunteers and other supporters. Maki reported having raised some $2400 in the first quarter through mostly small donations. Though Maki notes, “Voters should not be swayed by fundraising reports, rather concerned about granting certain powers to those who cannot govern wisely.”
For years, Todd Maki has been serving our community, as the Student Trustee at Palm Beach Community College, Founding Chairman of the Christian Leadership Association and as a mentor in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mentorship Program. In 2004 Maki was the recipient of the Provost Award for Distinguished Service.
Maki continues, “The extreme republican stranglehold on our State Government must be broken; they have failed us time and time again. We are not better off than we were six years ago. Should we not be shoring up those alternative sources of revenue to relieve some of the tax burden on our citizens? On a further note, are we lowering expectations of what a fully functioning government can accomplish?”
With a new direction, Maki believes Florida will find ways to meet the State’s needs by jump-starting the economy, offering incentives to new industry, especially green industry, while reducing the present tax burden.
Maki, 27, has been passionate about state government since his time at Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he worked in the Florida State Senate for State Senator Dave Aronberg and former State Senator and current United States Congressman Ron Klein. “I have learned from the brightest and most prolific statesmen in the minority party,” Maki says. “The biggest change I can make is by giving government back to the people. We must bring change home in 2008.”
Florida House District 87 includes parts Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Briny Breezes, Deerfield Beach, Delray Beach, Village of Golf, Gulf Stream, Highland Beach, Hypoluxo, Lantana, Manalapan, and Ocean Ridge.
