Leading high resolution IP camera manufacturer MOBOTIX AG have introduced megapixel surveillance cameras that are specifically designed for accurate visual verification of license plates at night. The MOBOTIX M12 LPF range of cameras have a long pass filter embedded into the left lens of the dual-lens camera. When used in conjunction with an Infra-Red illuminator (between 850nm-950nm)
Long pass filters (LPF) are useful for isolating specific regions of the spectrum above a specified value, to transmit a specific range of wavelengths, and block wavelengths below this value. The cut-on wavelength is where the long pass filter stops reflecting (blocking) and starts transmitting. LPF is often used in a range of applications such as heat detection, astronomy, IR research and long range night surveillance.
In a comparative demonstration shown at CEBIT 2008, the Mobotix Long Pass Filter M12 camera made the license plate of a moving vehicle stand out like a beacon. The alpha-numeric display was easy to read, even in pitch black conditions.
The M12 Long Pass Filter IP cameras are available in a dual 43mm and 135mm lens configurations and deliver high definition video quality.
