Open-Site plans to unseat Wikipedia

The Open-Site project plans to unseat Wikipedia as the number one internet encyclopedia, by upgrading its software and implementing a peer-reviewed editing system.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun 02, 2008 -
The Open-Site project (http://open-site.org), founded in 2002, has very recently re-invented itself. The encyclopedia's articles are now licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License ("GFDL"), and further, the site's content management system now allows for edits to be peer-reviewed before being published. Additionally, editing logs are now accessible to the public and the editing interface is easier than ever to use.

Armed with new features, an easy to use interface, and freely licensed articles, the project hopes to unseat Wikipedia as the number one encyclopedia on the internet. Unlike Wikipedia, which has unrestricted editing, meaning anyone can edit articles without an account, edits to Open-Site are reviewed before being published and editors are required to have an account to edit.

"Vandalism" is a major problem with Wikipedia. Most vandalized articles on Wikipedia are noticed promptly and are fixed within a half an hour, other vandalism may go unnoticed for months. Either way, incorrect information makes its way to Wikipedia's public site daily.

Open-Site hopes that it will catch user's attention by having a more trustworthy platform, in addition to the fact that having more than one online encyclopedia would be beneficial to everybody.
