Ajay Waghray CIO Verizon Wireless - Proud to be a BITsian
Starting his wireless career with Bell Atlantic Mobile in 1997 as a director of Information Technology, Ajay Waghray was named a vice president of IT when the company became part of the newly formed Verizon Wireless which is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone. For bringing business acumen, technical skill and passion to drive for leadership, CIO Magazine selected Ajay for the 2006 CIO 20 Ones to watch award.
In June 2007, Verizon named him as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) responsible for the company's Information Technology strategy, systems portfolio development and operation. For simplifying IT and showing the business how to innovate, IDG's Computerworld named him as Premier 100 IT Leaders 2008
The Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC) named Ajay Waghray Chief Information Officer of Verizon Wireless as one of 50 Outstanding Asian Americans in Business. AABDC has been supporting Asian American businesses and organizing the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business award since 2001. Ajay received this coveted Business World's top honour on May 28, 2008, in a gala function held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in midtown Manhattan New York City.
Ajay Waghray obtained his B.E. (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani where he was a student from 1978 to 1983. Year 2008 happens to be the Silver Jubilee Reunion year for Ajay and the celebrations have been scheduled at Pilani in the first week of October 2008.
In an exclusive message to BITS Alumni Association (BITSAA), Ajay has conveyed ' I am proud to be an alumnus of BITS, Pilani and BITS has provided me the educational background and the integrated foundation that has enabled me to contribute to the corporate world.'
