Leading Shropshire Hotel To Raise Funds For Baby Unit

May 29, 2008 - PRLog -- A local hospital is to benefit from a gala dinner as a leading Shropshire hotel says thank-you for caring for the baby of an employee.

The daughter of Kelly Lowe, who works in the sales department at the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Spa, arrived early with Zara weighing 7lbs 13oz.

After spending several nights in the special care baby unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Zara was moved to Birmingham Children’s Hospital to repair a pulmonary artery in her heart.

A raffle will be held when the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Spa holds a VIP dinner to mark the official opening of the entire venue in Tarporley Road, Whitchurch, on Thursday (June 5) to raise funds for the unit.

The Mayor of Shrewsbury Anne Chebsey and her husband, Michael, are among the 100 guests attending the three-course dinner in the hotel’s Shropshire Suite to mark the completion of the £11.8 million refurbishment and extension.

Iain Gray, general manager of the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Spa, said Kelly had been overwhelmed by the care and support she and Zara had received at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

“Zara is making excellent progress and is in good health but when she was born, Kelly spent a few anxious days and nights at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital,” he said.

“We wanted to thank the doctors and nurses for their specialist expertise and I’m sure the dignitaries, business men and women and hotel clients who attend the gala dinner will show their appreciation of their fantastic work.

“This evening is the culmination of several years of hard work to transform the venue into the fantastic golf, leisure and conference business it is today.

“We hope that the money we raise will go towards buying equipment to help other babies who are really ill or are born prematurely.”

Kelly’s sister, Jamie Minshall, who works in the hotel’s revenue department, added: “I have been delighted by the support everyone who works at the hotel has given not only to Kelly and Zara but to the hospital for providing such fantastic care.”
