Many drivers have heard that driving fast lowers your car’s fuel efficiency. A new website now confirms it.
http://www.SlowDownToSaveGas.com provides a simple calculator which determines your mileage and fuel costs at various highway speeds given your car’s estimated MPG, miles driven per day, and current gas price. Many visitors have become shocked to realize how much money can be saved by slowing down 5-10 mph. They are additionally surprised to learn that this change only increases their commute time by a few minutes, on average.
The website’s mission is to increase awareness of the effects that driving too fast has on your gas mileage. Data is provided by government studies and tailored to give the visitor a custom experience.
SlowDownToSaveGas.com was launched just a few weeks ago and has steadily been increasing in popularity, possibly due to the recent increase in already high gas prices. The idea came from a suggestion on a blog stating that such a calculator would be very useful given the current conditions. It is run by website hobbyist Shane Niebergall as part of the ShaneLabs.com network.
