Legal Reference Guide for Writers Nominated for ForeWORD Mag’s '07 Best Reference Book of the Year

PRLog (Press Release)May 26, 2008Contracts Companion for Writers, by Professor Tonya M. Evans-Walls, is selected by ForeWord Magazine as a 2007 Book of the Year Finalist in the Reference category. Nearly 1,600 books were entered in 61 categories. These were narrowed to 658 finalists, from 350 publishers. Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners, as well as Editor's Choice Prizes for Fiction and Nonfiction will be announced at a special program at BookExpo America at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles on May 30. The winners of the two Editor's Choice Prizes will be awarded $1,500 each.

Other titles in her series of legal reference guides include Copyright Companion for Writers, a 2007 USA BOOK NEWS “BEST OF” Winner in the reference category and Literary Law Guide for Authors: Copyright, Trademark and Contracts in Plain Language, touted by Library Journal as a “clear and understandable overview [that] includes practical advice and real-world examples” and is “recommended for most libraries.” All of the titles are Writer’s Digest® Book Club selections and have received national recognition and accolades from the industry and writers alike.

The guru of self-publishing, Dan Poynter, praised Evans-Walls’ latest release. “I do not know of another book that covers all of these topics in such a complete, down-to-earth and understandable fashion, and I highly recommend it for every writer’s reference shelf.”

While attending BookExpo, Professor Evans-Walls will present a workshop titled "Protect Your Copyright, Fair Use and Permissions" at PMA University, which precedes BookExpo at the Wilshire Grand Hotel, on Thursday, May 29th at 4:00 PM. She will also sign copies of her books on Friday at 1:00 PM in the PMA Pavilion, Booth 727, and on Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Autographing Area, Table 26.

Professor Evans-Walls is Assistant Professor of Law at Widener University School of Law (Harrisburg campus) and an attorney specializing in the areas of entertainment law (literary, music and film), intellectual property (copyright and trademark), estate planning, and municipal finance. She is the Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Sports, Entertainment and Art Law Committee, and has served as an adjunct professor of copyright, publishing and licensing at York College of Pennsylvania. She is a nationally recognized speaker who presents to various audiences regularly on publishing and intellectual property law and estate planning issues.
