PRLog (Press Release)May 23, 2008 – HOUSTON  –  ‘Arc Flash Assessment and Protection; What is Required?’ will be one of five pre-conference seminars focusing on ‘Safety Within the Wind Industry’ which will kickoff the WINDPOWER 2008 Conference and Exposition.

The conference, sponsored by the American Wind Energy Association, will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston from June 1-4. The Wind Safety seminars will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first day, June 1. The Arc Flash seminar will be second in the line up from 9:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and will feature industry experts: Carlos Diaz, manager of Health and Safety, Edison Mission Energy - Midwest Generation EME, LLC and Ron Widup, executive vice president, Shermco Industries.

The Arc Flash session will answer questions such as: What needs and requirements are associated with electrical hazard assessment? What are some of the upcoming changes to standards that affect electrical hazard assessment? And What protective measures can be taken to prevent arc flash injuries?, says Widup.

“As someone who has received burns from an arc flash event, I feel a responsibility to be an advocate for electrical safety issues whenever I can,” said Widup.
