FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)May 23, 2008 – British Gas are sharing their technical know-how with colleges, gas engineers, individuals and companies, through a series of computer based training programmes which use `computer games technology’ to demonstrate practical skills. The latest `serious games application’, is being used to allow trainee engineers to learn skills through a blend of computer based tuition and the opportunity to practice what they’ve learnt in a PC based virtual reality environment.

Currently there are six e-learning modules that British Gas Training Academy have developed in close association with Milton Keynes based Skills2Learn, who are also the sole distributors for the programmes.

Skills are demonstrated by imaginative use of graphics, video, 2D and 3D animation, while a voice-over describes the process being taught.  This allows the trainee to view the scenario as many times as necessary and students can then practice their skills through a series of interactive exercises, undertaken in the safe setting of the virtual reality house.

All six programmes are available for purchase these are: Fault Finding, Central heating System Controls, Combination Boiler Guide, Part L, Ventilation Requirements and Flueing Requirements and can be used by individuals, colleges, large or small businesses to revise and practice skills, or for the more experienced engineers to update knowledge, following revised legislation.

Dr. Majid Al-Kader, Managing Director of Skills2Learn, who specialise in creating e-learning training programmes often incorporating virtual reality environments, said: “The e-learning technology used in the British Gas Training Academy is designed to maximize students’ recall. The familiar graphical style training is very engaging and the student can repeat the skill he’s learnt in a safe environment where students can neither harm themselves nor damage customers’ premises. This technology lends itself perfectly to demonstrating practical skills”.

Skills2Learn also claim that the new e-learning process saves organizations significant sums in wasted materials.

Dr. Majid Al-Kader continued: The programme suite makes training for Gas Engineers not only comprehensive and safe but also engaging, interactive as well as immersive with the use of Virtual Reality serious game technology.  The e-learning range produces outstanding results for gas engineers and brings a respected comment of credibility form Further Education Colleges, and Training Centre Managers who embrace this exciting learning medium.
