Designer Conducts Fundraiser to Support the Burmese People

PRLog (Press Release) – May 25, 2008 – With the great need to help the millions of people affected by Cyclone Nargis in Burma/Myanmar, Mingus Designs will be holding a special fundraiser to help support CARE Australia’s Cyclone Nargis appeal.

All proceeds of sales, from the 1st of June 2008 to the 12th of July 2008, of Mingus’ distinctive handmade purses and brooches sold through Etsy (http://mingus.etsy.com) and MadeIt (http://www.madeit.com.au/madeit/supplierdetail.asp?rsSup ...) will be donated through CARE Australia. Many of Myanmar’s people are still without food and basic shelter weeks after the cyclone hit and urgent aid is needed. CARE are intending to provide food, shelter and basic medical aid to the as many of Myanmar's people as possible.

“Whole towns and villages have been completely wiped out leaving the survivors with only what they have on their backs” Brian Agland CARE’s Country Director said after returning from some of the worst affected regions.

After seeing and hearing about so much destruction and devastation Mingus Designs just had to help. With the amount of trouble being encountered by other organisations and countries that are trying to get aid into Myanmar CARE seemed like the obvious choice to really make a difference. CARE already have an ongoing agreement with the Myanmar government to provide aid in the country and have people on the ground ready to help.

The fundraiser will finish on the 12th of July 2008. Donations can still be made after this time through CARE Australia’s website http://www.careaustralia.org.au.
