FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PR Log (Press Release) –
May 21, 2008 – The name Lorica is derived from the Latin word for armor or protection. Lorica has been released under a dual license model. This means users may use Lorica without the payment of user fees but with the obligation to share their source code, and any changes they might make, with the open source community at large under the well known terms of the GNU General Public License. Alternatively the users may purchase a commercial license from 42tools and avoid any of the obligations imposed by the GPL.
In today's connected world organizations are increasingly providing access via the internet to their staff and client/supplier base. Such access involves some risk. To mitigate that risk various software approaches are used. One such software approach is called a firewall because it prevents traffic or access across a system boundary. However some access is good traffic and is desirable. Therefore a tool is required to control and manage the flow of internet traffic between internal and external systems. The 42tools Lorica product allows system managers to get a free tool for controlling firewall traversal for CORBA applications. It is theirs to use as-is or adapt to their needs. Jules Colding, the founder of 42tools, commented that he felt Lorica was an important contribution to the Open Source community. He also believed that developers of commercial software would find Lorica an attractive product due to the ease at which Lorica could be tailor-made to their specific needs. Please go to http://lorica.42tools.com to read more about Lorica.
