Carolinas Wireless Association Announces 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament

PRLog (Press Release) – May 20, 2008 – Raleigh, NC – Brian Hurley, President of Carolinas Wireless Association, has announced that Carolinas Wireless Association will be holding their 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament.  The charity event will be held on Tuesday, June 10 at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club located at 565 Competition Road in Raleigh.  Registration begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by 12:00 p.m. shotgun start, ending with an awards dinner at 5:00 p.m.  Proceeds of the Carolinas Wireless Association Golf Tournament will be donated to University of North Carolina Hospital Ovarian Cancer Research.  

“The Charity Golf Tournament is a great opportunity to give something back to the community,” said Hurley.  “Thanks to the tremendous generosity of the community, we raised over 10,000 dollars last year.  It’s a tough act to follow, but I am confident we can raise just as much, if not more this year.”  Mike Sayers, Carolinas Wireless Associations’ Events Chair adds, “We would like to encourage everyone to come join us this year and enjoy themselves while helping us raise money for ovarian cancer research.  Ovarian cancer is leading cause of death in women, and this charity event furthers the opportunity for those at The Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of North Carolina to better understand and treat this devastating problem facing so many women today.”

Players must register teams by Tuesday, June 3.  Eagle Ridge requires proper golf attire at all times including collared shirts, dress shorts or pants and no denim is allowed. About University of North Carolina Hospital Ovarian Cancer Research
Currently, ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death in women. Most often, ovarian cancer presents itself in late stages, making diagnosis and treatment a difficult process.  Unlike screening for breast, colon or other cancers, there are no known ways to effectively screen for ovarian cancer. Consequently, a very aggressive approach to treatment is necessary including surgery and chemotherapy. For most ovarian cancer patients, the treatment time line is roughly a minimum of one year. Although there have been several improvements in cure rates for ovarian cancer patients, an overwhelming majority of patients die primarily due to late stage diagnosis. The Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of North Carolina is making concerted efforts to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer to drastically increase the survival rate of ovarian cancer patients.
