May 20, 2008 – Neptune Ventures SM LLC announced today that it has completed the acquisition of the Internet domain name Basketball.org. The exact terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition will help them continue to build their network of sites in popular web verticals.
The sale of Basketball.org follows the sale of several other highly publicized domains so far in 2008. Despite the economic downturn as a whole, the domain industry continues to show strong signs of growth.
“We are excited about the opportunity to build around this category-defining generic domain,” said Neptune’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Neu. “We targeted the .org extension because not only does it allow us to build and brand a credible website, but it also highlights our focus of giving back to the basketball community in several ways.”
Basketball is one of the most popular and fastest growing sports in the world. “Our goal is to help shape the future of basketball from the ground up. We feel there is no better platform to reach a global basketball audience than the Internet and subsequently this domain” Neu said.
Neptune’s vision draws out several strategies for maximizing the impact it can have on a global audience. Initially, they will be launching a blog while they work on the full development of the site.
