PRLog (Press Release) - May 20, 2008 -
A charity which was set up in the wake of the IRA bombing in Warrington is hosting its annual golf day at a leading Cheshire hotel.

The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace was set up as a living memorial to 12-year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Johnathan Ball who lost their lives in the bombing 15 years ago.

The Foundation, based at a purpose-built Peace Centre, offers personal development opportunities and support for young people through educational programmes on themes of conflict resolution, anger management, bullying, racism and conflict resolution.

The Foundation is tackling some of the key issues facing society today – prejudice, discrimination and violence – and since the centre opened in March 2000, they have worked with over 20,000 young people locally, regionally and nationally.

The Foundation, sponsored by I-Com internet Communication and Clubhouse Golf Direct, is holding its fourth annual charity golf day at the Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa on Thursday, May 29.

Wendy Parry, mum of Tim, is encouraging golfers to take part in the competition at the hotel in Cobblers Cross Lane, Tarporley.

“The Foundation’s programmes aim to provide people with the skills to resolve conflicts through dialogue without resorting to violence,” she said. “Over the past two years, our programmes have proved to be successful and we are now being asked to work with young people across Britain.

“With the increased demand for our work we have proved that we really can make a difference to young people’s lives but with this demand comes the need to raise further funds to enable delivery of our programmes.”

The golf competition with teams of four starts at 11.30am with registration and brunch. The teams will then make their way to the fairway for a shotgun start at
1.30pm, which will be followed by a three-course dinner, raffle and presentation.

Christine Jones, director of sales at Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa, said this was a fantastic charity for golfers to support.

“The team at Foundation for Peace help around 4,000 young people every year and they need to raise sufficient funds to continue their wonderful work,” she said.

“I hope the golf day is the charity’s best yet at Portal and I wish them every success.”
