She’s SO Creative, a brand spanking new company chock full of outrageously clever and devilishly adorable greeting cards, will debut its line at the National Stationery Show in New York City from May 18-21, 2008 in booth 3303. This is the company's first time exhibiting at the National Stationery Show. Established by Bay Area artist and graphic designer, Stephanie Orma, the company launched their plethora of witty greeting cards this past January at the 2008 San Francisco Gift Show. The results speak for themselves. In less then 3 months, She's SO Creative is in nearly 30 stores, 4 states, and on both coasts. Two Neat, one of the best card retailers in Northern California has even created an entire She’s SO Creative section in their store solely devoted to the company's designs. And the buzz about She's SO Creative cards has been tremendous. In just a few short few months, the company has appeared in several magazines, newspapers and is a hot topic among bloggers. The clever cards even share print space this May with Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett in the super hip, San Francisco lifestyle publication, 7x7 SF Magazine!
What inspired Orma to tackle this endeavor? "There is nothing I enjoy more then thinking of fun, creative ideas. So in a nutshell, I wanted to see if I could make a living doing something I absolutely love."
An example of her cards: A mother says to her daughter, as eyeballs are rolling on the floor between them, " Don't roll your eyes at me, young lady." On another, a faceless woman stands ironing her face on an ironing board with the caption "Ironing out wrinkles the old fashioned."
A New York native, Orma studied graphic design at Parsons School of Design in New York City and creative writing at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her professional career runs the gamut from skilled and experienced graphic designer for award-winning design firms, to advertising account manager and creative marketing consultant for major Fortune 500 accounts. Through it all, she was known for her excited phrase, “I’ve got another idea!” So with a burning passion to explore all the fantastical ideas that bounced around in her head at night, Orma took a big chance in the fall of 2007 and quit her lucrative marketing job to become an entrepreneur. After several months of brainstorming, exploring, drawing, and allowing those creative juices to flow, She’s SO Creative was born.
Orma exclaims "I am inspired by everything! Someone may tell me a story and I'll think, 'That would make a great card.' For example, my husband is in a doctoral psychology program in San Francisco and one of his friends from the program recently went on a job interview where the interviewer, a very highly respected psychologist, had his fly accidentally unzipped the entire time. That cracked me up! I took that idea, played around with it, and came up with one of my cards, entitled 'Therapists who don't practice what they preach.'"
The collection includes birthday, holiday, everyday, valentines, love, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, travel, get well, inspiration, and even new puppy greeting cards. Blank everyday note cards in boxed sets are also available. Each idea is hand drawn by Stephanie and then printed on premium 30% post consumer waste recycled natural stock.
Orma's proudest moment as an entrepreneur, thus far? "I have two: One: seeing my cards in a retail store for the very first time. Two: seeing someone I've never met before buy my cards for the very first time."
