Dafina Gercheva holds a Ph.D. in environmental economics and a master’s degree in political economy and sociology from the University of National and World Economy in Sofia. She completed her post-graduate research and studies in environmental economics and policy in the University College of London, Oxford University and the University of Chapel Hill. She is currently acting democratic governance practice leader, capacity development advisor and regional coordinator of the United Nations Development Program, Bratislava Regional Centre. In these capacities, Dafina manages regional projects and provides policy advice to the UNDP offices in twenty-nine countries throughout Europe and the United States. Dafina is the perfect candidate for this position; she has fourteen years of experience as a development practitioner, ten years experience as a professor of environmental economics, has been involved with democratic governance and is well-versed in public administration. She has been a visiting scholar at Oxford University, speaks five languages and maintains affiliations with many professional associations and non-governmental organizations that are dedicated to democratic governance, environment and sustainable development. When she isn’t serving the United Nations, making the Bratislava region of Slovakia a better place to live, Dafina Gercheva spends her spare time reading the Economist, participating in sports and enjoying her family.
In recognition of her exemplary career with the United Nations, Dafina Gercheva is being included in the 2008/2009 Princeton Premier Registry where she will assume a well-deserved position among the most accomplished business leaders and professionals of every industry from around the globe.
