The Suncoast Blues Society is proud to have created a charity for Blues musicians in need of financial support. The Diamond Teeth Mary "Really Got the Blues Fund" was set up for just that purpose. In the past several years they have dispersed thousands of dollars to local and national Blues artists in their time of need, mostly for medical expenses.
Matt Walsh
.Matt Walsh was born in Statesville, N.C.in 1977 and he had leanings towards music at an early age. (At age five he loved Sha Na Na and used to imitate their show by putting grease in his hair and using a vacuum cleaner hose for a microphone). He got hip to a lot of musicians in his preteen years, including Jimi Hendrix, Canned Heat, Chuck Berry, Johnny Winter and the Rolling Stones. Keith Richards is still one of his musical idols. These musicians were a road map to the music that he grew to love the most, but he had no idea that the rock music he loved was rooted in something much deeper...the Blues.
Around 2000 Matt started opening for some blues legends like Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, Delbert McClinton, Homer Henderson and Kenny Neal. He met and became friends with Bob Margolin around 2002. From 1973-1980, Bob played guitar in the band of Chicago Blues legend Muddy Waters. It's probably obvious that Bob has been a great influence and inspiration for Matt, but he has also been a good friend, and is responsible for introducing some great musicians with whom he currently plays.
