May 13, 2008 – Sioux Falls, SD -- SDBoxer Rescue will be hosting a breed meet and greet at the Sioux Falls Petco (3110 S Louise Ave Sioux Falls, SD 57106). Volunteers will be available from1:00 to 4:00pm. Boxers of all ages and colors will be in the store to meet potential adopters or persons looking for more information on the breed.
SD Boxer Rescue volunteers are working to meet their goals of quality adoptions for the Boxers rehabilitated by their program. They hope to bring a greater awareness of the needs of this large breed dog to current and future owners. Many of the volunteers are owners themselves, sharing their personal experiences with new families is a rewarding part of their job.
Donations will also be accepted at this event. SD Boxer Rescue is a non-profit organization that depends on the support of the public to continue to care for the dogs awaiting adoption. Many rescued dogs face extensive vetrinary care and sponsorship is necessary to make that possible.
Two such dogs are Lucy and Lady Belle. Lucy was starving to death. Battling a severe skin infection and chained to a dog house, her recovery has been very rewarding. She is now fully rehabilitated, healthy and ready for adoption. Lady Belle was found living with her young puppies in an abandoned car. Taken in frigid 17 degrees below freezing, her survival was miraculous. Now a hearty 70 lbs, Lady Belle is ready to give back the love she's received to a deserving adoptive family.
SD Boxer Rescue staff have been active in Vermillion, Sioux Falls and the surrounding area since 1998. By utilizing both behavior assessment of each dog, and a strict adoption application process, SD Boxer Rescue takes pride in it's ability to make excellent placements for each pet. Their hope is this Saturday's event will be the beginning of even more such adoptions.
President Cheryl Feight says “We hope many people will come join us on Saturday! You can learn a lot about boxers, a lot about 'Boxer people' and we really have a lot of fun! We hope to help the dogs find their forever homes, help families find fantastic companions and also to educate people about the requirements and needs of boxers.”
SD Boxer Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is staffed fully by unpaid volunteers. SD Boxer Rescue does not have a facility, all dogs are housed in screened foster homes.
