Stephen’s new book is about his personal battle with drugs and alcohol, and the long dark road addiction took him down. In Rising Above the Influence, he candidly recounts his indoctrination into the world of substance abuse as a young teenager; and the desperate, sometimes morbidly comical situations he endured to support his heavy addictions to heroin, prescription drugs, cocaine and alcohol.
“I consider myself to be one of the lucky ones,” says Stephen. “I know many people who have ended up with serious prison time due to their addictions, and even some who have died.”
As the nationwide drug epidemic continues to be a evolving problem, Stephen hopes his book will serve as an educational tool in helping spread awareness of the dangers of addiction.
“I had to learn the hard way, but in a way I am grateful for everything that happened because it has all led to the amazing life I live today,” Stephen states. “If my book can inspire one person to change his lifestyle, or help out the family members of an addict, then I have succeeded.”
Since his commitment to getting sober and turning his life around over twenty years ago, Stephen works daily in helping others to achieve the life he now lives.
