OCI announces support for the open source J2EE application server software from jboss.org

The jboss.org community edition is an open source implementation of J2EE. OCI has created and intends to support a "distribution friendly" version of the LGPL sofware that enables easy incorporation into other software products.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - May 09, 2008 -
St. Louis Mo. In response to customer demand OCI has expanded its support for mission critical middleware technologies by adding the open source community edition of J2EE application server software, obtained from the JBoss.org web site.  The OCI support model includes 24 by 7 support.

Although other vendors already offer support for this important open source product, OCI's approach has two significant benefits for its customer base. The first is that the OCI source code distribution is devoid of any trademarks, company references  or other artifacts that might cause infringement issues, if a user were to incorporate it in their product for redistribution. OCI refers to this as a "redistribution friendly" version.  The original licensing model is obviously still being retained. It is licensed under what is called LGPL. OCI will assist clients in fulfilling any obligations incurred if they elect to modify, extend or otherwise improve the LGPL code base.

The second is that, as with all OCI open source products, our support is "time and materials" based. Other support models are more often CPU-count based. This makes the OCI model very cost effective for large installations.

OCI is a proven supporter of open source products and over the last 10 years has built a support organization with exeprienced software engineers handling even first line enquiries. The OCI support model is focused at assisting clients in their obtaining their full measure of the value inherent in enterprise scale open source middleware products. OCI's supported open source CORBA, FIX and DDS products can be found around the world, powering systems used in weaponry, finance, telecommunications and other demanding circumstances.

Dr. Moshiri the CEO of OCI commented "that even among competing open source vendors we have always found a way to add unique value, and this was no exception."
