FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)May 09, 2008 – Most of us would rather be doing something else other than standing in a queue and filling out forms to renew our car tax disc. Now you can avoid the queues and save time by applying for a new tax disc by phone or on the Internet.

Taxing your car on the web
You can apply for a new tax disc at www.direct.gov.uk/taxdisc. Just follow the easy step-by-step process online. Once you have completed all the steps and a routine online check has been carried out to ensure that your vehicle is insured, has a current MOT and if you are entitled to a disability exemption, you will be issued with a new tax disc within 5 working days.

Taxing your car over the phone
You can also apply for a new tax disc by calling 0870 850 444. The friendly call centre operators will take you through the renewal process quickly and efficiently.

Before you make the call or go online, you will need:
•   Your vehicle registration number
•   Your 16 digit reference number that is printed on your renewal reminder notice in the yellow box
Or
•   Your 11 digit number printed on the front of your Vehicle Registration Certificate (V5C)

Update your details
You will need to make sure that all your details including address, name and any changes you have made to your car have been updated on the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) website. If your details are not current on the DVLA website, you will not be issued with a new tax disc.
All car insurance details are stored on the Motor Insurance Database (MID). You can use the Vehicle Enquiry service at www.askmid.com to check what details are stored about your vehicle.
