of the Year at Irish ICT Awards Business telecommunications company, Magnet Business has been awarded the title of the night at the annual ICT Awards after being announced Telecommunications Company of the Year. The annual event, now in its eighth year and considered the “Oscars for the IT industry in Ireland”, recognises professional standards in the Information and Communications Technology sector and took place on May 1st in University College Dublin. The judging panel, chaired by Forfas Chairman Eoin O'Driscoll considered Magnet’s contention-free offering as an example of disruptive activity which is giving it a competitive edge. They were also impressed by the extent of its fibre network, with 39 unbundled exchanges nationwide. Frank Quinn, Joint Managing Director of Computerscope, said on the night: “This was one of the most hotly contested awards tonight, with the number of entries doubling over last year. The judges looked for disruptive market behaviour, companies doing well in niches and clear evidence of strategy.” As well as Mr. O’Driscoll other judges included Dr Jim Mountjoy, Director of the Science Foundation of Ireland and Chairman of the ICT Ireland R&D Advisory Committee; Chairman of the Irish Software Association Pat Brazel; Dr Tom McCarthy, Chief Executive of the Irish Management Institute and Jim O’Hara, General Manager of Intel Ireland.
