FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)May 08, 2008 – The Hepatitis B Foundation sponsored First Friday Doylestown on May 2 in support of National Hepatitis Awareness Month for a third consecutive year. The Foundation’s continued commitment to sponsoring First Friday Doylestown is to raise awareness among local community leaders, educators, business owners and residents that one in 20 Americans has been affected by hepatitis B. That means, “Someone you know and love has been touched by the deadly virus,” according to Peggy Farley, Community Relations Manager for the Foundation.

During the evening, Hepatitis B Foundation staff and volunteers were on hand to speak to members of the public about their work. The Foundation’s tent featured Michelle Grossman NBC 10 EarthWatch Meteorologist; local singer/songwriters Christy Jefferson & Band and The Waltons; O’Liver, the Hepatitis B Foundation’s mascot; a display of Cold Spring Elementary School students’ artwork; hepatitis B literature for adults and youth and much more. The event ran from 6 pm to 9:30 pm and was FREE.

For the Foundation, First Friday Doylestown is an evening to celebrate the arts and raise awareness about the good work it is doing in the community. The Foundation distributed information about their upcoming Believe in the Cure Cycling Tour in which a young man infected with the hepatitis b virus will ride his bike from Pensacola, Fla., to Philadelphia to promote awareness of hepatitis B. Foundation representatives were also available to answer questions from local residents as well as discuss public health programs that the Foundation offers the community.
