May 8, 2008 - PRLog -- The Burma Global Action Network (BGAN) is pleased to announce the launch of the new website at http://www.burma-network.org. BGAN strive to be a definitive online resource for the Burmese freedom movement, with information on Burma-related events worldwide, including demonstrations, rallies and other awareness activities.

The core executive of BGAN is comprised of the administrators of the Facebook group, Support the Monks' Protest in Burma, which, at its peak, counted more than 450,000 members. BGAN was founded in response to the 2007 Burmese anti-Government protests, and was instrumental in initiating and organizing the Global Day of Action for Burma (October 6th 2007), as well as the October 23 day of action for Aung Sang Suu Kyi and political prisoners. BGAN is compiling a comprehensive database of organizations working towards the goal of a free Burma, with the hope that it will eventually serve as a means to facilitate global action and cooperation between groups.

BGAN’s forum, a key part of the website, is designed to be a place to express views on Burma-related issues. Aside from a place of discussion, BGAN envision the forum to be a place to coordinate global action with counterparts around the globe – and a great place to make connections with like-minded activists worldwide.

In conjunction with various established advocacy groups around the world, including the Burma Campaign UK, the US Campaign for Burma and Canadian Friends of Burma, BGAN have launched a campaign called “Don’t Forget Burma” at www.dontforgetburma.org.  Patterned after the websites Werenotafraid.com and Sorryeverybody.com, www.dontforgetburma.org is a place to leave messages of support for the Burmese people and a means of countering Burma’s fall from the media spotlight since the demonstrations in September.

BGAN hope you find the website an informative and useful resource.  For feedback, comments, concerns and volunteering opportunities, please feel free to contact BGAN at info@burma-network.org.  BGAN is always in need of volunteers, wherever you are in the world.

Now is the time to realize the dream of a free Burma!
