FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)May 06, 2008 – Packt is pleased to announce the availability of it's new book, Network Administrationwith FreeBSD 7 which focuses on the FreeBSD operating system. Written by experienced UNIX system administrator and Network Engineer Babak Farrokhi, this book is a guide to FreeBSD for network administrators. Users will learn to work with and extract full potential from this operating system to build, secure and maintain networks.

To know more about the book, please visit: http://www.packtpub.com/network-administration-with-free ...

FreeBSD is developed as a complete operating system. It is a Unix-like free operating system descended from AT&T UNIX via the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) branch through the 386BSD and 4.4BSD operating systems. FreeBSD has been characterized as "the unknown giant among free operating systems". It is not a clone of UNIX, but works like UNIX, with UNIX-compliant internals and system APIs. FreeBSD is generally regarded as reliable and robust.

This book covers using jails—FreeBSD virtual environments—to virtually run multiple instances of FreeBSD on the same hardware. The book talks about about connectivity testing and debugging tools and covers using the ifconfig utility to configure interfaces with different layer protocols.

The book explains basic IP forwarding in FreeBSD and the use of the built-in routing daemons, routed and route6d, which support RIPv1, RIPv2, RIPng, and RDISC. It teaches users to install the OpenOSPFD and OpenBGPD daemons to run OSPF and BGP on their host.

Network Administrators looking for skills beyond installation and configuration of FreeBSD wil find this book useful. For more information about the book, please visit: http://www.packtpub.com/network-administration-with-free ...
