The annual film project revolves around a 48-hour time period where teams write, produce, edit and deliver a film all in one caffeine and adrenaline induced sleep deprived weekend. Justice Productions, founded by Rowan TV/Film Alumni, Doug Siedel ’04 and Ray Willis ’04, continues to make their presence be known. The multiple-award winning team is now made up of over 15+ Rowan Alumni and Justice Production continues to grow each year.
Film directors, Allen M. Gottfried, Rowan ’03, and Doug Siedel take a different approach and work on many of the Justice projects together as a directing-team. The collaboration between the two visual minds and ability to direct different styles really enhance the final production. “The crew is always saying how Doug and Allen think very much alike when filming, but they still tend to see things slightly different making for a diverse film that is far from lacking and allowing us to deliver an amazing final product.” said producer Sean Gallagher, Rowan ’04.
Shooting on location in a refrigeration warehouse in near-by Pitman, the Sci-Fi genre was perfect for Justice. The project also requires all teams to have a specific line of dialogue, “You better double check.” a character, “Ira Livingston, Dishwasher” and a prop, which was a wrench. All of these elements must be included within the final submission of a participating team’s film.
The Crew of Justice quickly assembled and within a few short hours had the completed, crew-approved and typical twisted and comical script that the Justice crew is known for. A quick synopsis of the film revealed that a futuristic hybrid dishwasher/oven cooking machine, IRA (Intelligent Robotic Appliance) would get revenge against the co-workers of the future-weapons company, Starwares. IRA has been abused and belittled about its age and speed. Now, the self-aware machine plants a simple virus in food and on dishware that will turn the co-workers against each other and make them want to kill.
This film includes everything from a hallucinogenic trip to a choreographed fight sequence and some awesome visual effects. “We had tons of fun shooting this one! We even had a crane shot!” said the Directors.
This year Justice Productions was awarded for best use of character in Starwares. Now, ever more excited since taking home yet another award, the Crew of Justice and the Rowan Alumni are eagerly looking forward to next year and another sleep-less weekend. “We have already started to brainstorm new ideas and are actively seeking new and unique locations to shoot at.” said Gottfried.
