May 3, 2008 - PRLog -- Dining in the presence of some of your favorite celebrities would be a dream come true for many of their admirers but seems like an impossible feat, right? Not so. Starting on April 21st that dream can be fulfilled through a 20-day auction that will feature plates with signatures from the likes of Tom Hanks, Martha Stewart, Muhammad Ali, Jordin Sparks, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Anne Murray, Pam Tillis and many more!

The Parkinson Society Maritime Region brings you this online auction, in partnership with Auctionwire Inc., for their annual Plates For Parkinson's auction. The plates will be launched in batches, with three altogether, and end in intervals until May 11th. Interested bidders will be bidding on eBay for their chance to own a piece of celebrity memorabilia in support of a great charitable cause. "The Parkinson Society is thrilled that so many celebrities from a variety of backgrounds, movies, television, politics, the arts, have come together to raise awareness of Parkinson's and raise funds through this auction of celebrity designed plates," said Paul McNair, executive director of the Parkinson Society Maritime Region.

The charity auction, in support of the Parkinson Society Maritime Region will benefit the funding for services such as exercise programs, speech therapy, massage therapy as well as conferences and workshops. The proceeds will also be used towards the National Research Program of the Parkinson Society Canada, which funds the very best in peer-reviewed research programs.

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological disorder affecting more than 1.1 million people in Canada and the US, 8,400 of whom live in the Maritimes (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island). For more information on how you can help support this charity auction, please visit: http://www.auctionwire.ca/plates or visit GivingRoom at www.givingroom.com, our charity-based social networking site, to join the Parkinson Society Maritime Region cause.
