With the possibility of a brokered convention in August, media outlets are scrambling to find lodging after being told the DNC would not be able to deliver on all of the requested rooms. In response Eventhotelrooms.com has annouced today the availability of an additional 150 hotel rooms for the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
"We have several large blocks of rooms for media or speical interest groups" says Chris Travis, VP Business Development of Eventhotelrooms.com. "These organizations can stay within a 10 minute drive of the convention. Closer than most of the delegate properties"
The DNC is expected to draw over 50,000 people to the Denver area August 25th - 28th, as an unprecendted two candidates remain locked in a race for the party nomination. The battle will continue to the convention floor. In addition, several thousand demostrators plan to descend on the city.
"The planning committe never anticipated this level of interest" says Travis "We are getting more phone calls for the Convention than we did for the Superbowl last year"
While prices on other travel sites border on the ridiculous, $400 a night for a Traveldoge 22 miles away, all of eventhotelrooms.com properties are within a 10 minute drive and all are on par with normal hotel rates. "If a group needs a block of 20 rooms, we can accomodate them" Travis elaborates "No other site can offer that at this time"
In fact a cursory search of Expedia turned up only one property with more than four rooms available during convention week. That property was 20 miles away and charging $399 per night.
"We had a group come in last week and take 50 rooms" Travis stated "I wish I could have predicted this demand"
