PRLog (Press Release) - May 02, 2008 -
This year Pruden and Smith, renowned Sussex silversmiths and goldsmiths, are celebrating 20 years of designing and making their unique jewellery and silverware in Ditchling.
Discerning collectors and buyers from all over the world have discovered their masterful blend of contemporary and lavish design, made on the premises with care and passion.

To celebrate this milestone in British craftsmanship, this summer sees a succession of events held in their gallery and workshop.

In May, as part of the Brighton Festival Open Houses, The Art in Ditchling Trail is now a well-established, high quality event with 10 venues in and around the village. With the museum, excellent pubs, cafes and country walks this makes an ideal spring day out. The Pruden & Smith Gallery is open all weekend during the Festival.

In June, British silversmiths are staging ‘British Silver Week’ to celebrate the renaissance in modern UK silversmithing. This promises to be one of the most exhilarating design events of 2008 when the work of over 100 of the UK’s top and upcoming silversmiths will be showcased in a series of exhibitions and events held throughout the UK. Pruden and Smith is proud to be one of those galleries.

Later in June there will be a unique opportunity to see the “Connect” touring exhibition. As founder members of the Association of British Designer Silversmiths, Pruden and Smith were one of 50 silversmiths presented with a bowl or a glass and a quantity of silver, and asked to apply their imaginations and silversmithing skills to create a unique piece on the theme of EAT & DRINK.

Visit the Pruden & Smith gallery and workshop on Ditchling Crossroads or their website www.pruden and smith.com to experience this precious legacy.

Using sound Arts and Crafts values and aesthetics as their starting point, when Anton Pruden and Rebecca Smith set up workshop in Ditchling in 1988, they quickly established a name for high quality, handmade, contemporary silverware and jewellery. Alongside three generations of uncompromising craftsmanship (Anton’s grandfather was the silversmith in the Eric Gill community) Rebecca’s fine art training ensures design excellence. Each piece is lovingly formed, hammered and finished in the knowledge that its individuality will live on, way past that of its maker.
