CORConcepts was founded by Gabrielle Corcoran in 2003 and has been expanding ever since. Since its creation in 2003 there has never been a single lay off due to downsizing and in fact the company has expanded to become four new firms in different major cities including, Detroit, Philadelphia and New York. As someone who has never been scared to roll up her sleeves, Corcoran knows how to develop and coach talent and therefore prides herself on the company training program. This ability to develop talent is evidenced by the fact that all four of the expansion offices are run by people who started as entry-level employees.
“We have always believed in promoting from within and in order to do this, our employees have to be ready to lead. We would never put someone in a position they were not ready for,” Corcoran said. In addition to the extensive training that all employees receive, there are weekly meetings in which team members talk about issues they are having and how to resolve them. This enables a free flow of communication between managers and entry-level employees. Corcoran continued, “I want everyone at my company to feel like they have a place to voice concerns and have enough support to address these concerns.”
Corcoran started her career as most do in a typical environment in which entry-level employees can be lost in the shuffle and this drove her to find a place where she was not only supported but given true room to grow and advance. She started with a private firm, and within a year was ready and trained to take over operations of the company. “Working in a typical entry-level position gave me the desire to want more and create my own success. The thing that I love most is helping other achieve their dreams like I did.”
Corcoran is excited about training the next generation of leaders and believes that those who are graduating this spring need an environment that not only provides stability but enough coaching and support to go as far as you can and not get caught up in typical corporate or federal advancement structures.
