Azusa, California - This year, the teens Homework House’s Neighborhood Teen Project visited six different colleges as a part of the annual Campus Crash event. Campus Crash is designed to encourage students to capture a vision for their lives after high school by exposing them to college life and culture, empowering them to navigate the college entry process, and connecting them with resources that provide assistance and support for low income students.
During Campus Crash, students visit the dorms, take campus tours, hear student testimonials and even eat in the school’s cafeterias! One of the many highlights of this year’s trip was visiting California State University at Long Beach (CSULB). It was here where they were greeted by seven young, hip, and enthusiastic college students from the Latino Student Union and given an opportunity to sit down with them for a question and answer time. One Homework House teen asked the undergrads what made them choose to attend CSULB. One of them answered by saying that she fell in love with the school after she had visited the campus her freshman year of high school. At that point, she knew that she wanted to attend the school and that would do whatever it took to get there, not letting anything stand in her way.
After the rest of the tour, towards the end of the day, a group of Homework House teens were overheard saying that they wanted to someday attend CSULB and that, like the college student, they too would do whatever it took and not let anything stand in their way.
