It has only been a couple short months since 150 plus bands converged on Memphis, Tennessee for International Blues Challenge. But the Detroit Blues Society has already announced the winners of this year's Round 1 and Round 2 Detroit Blues Challenge. These winners will compete for the honor of representing the Motor City in next year's IBC.
On March 22nd five groups threw down to determine the first round winners in the solo/duo division of the Detroit Blues Challenge. The host club for Round 1 was The Oxford Tap . Thanks to Mike Phipps and the gang, it was a very good show, " jam-packed" with talent. The large crowd was treated to the great music of:
Maggie McCabe
Mick and Honey
Earley and Blaylock
John Latini
JJ
In the end, the Judges picked the two winners and it was Maggie McCabe and John Latini that walked away with the top spots.
The host club for Round 2 of the Detroit Blues Challenge was Callahan's in Auburn Hills. Mike Moss, Peter Jay, and the gang were credited with making this a very good show. Again "jam-packed"
Big Shorty
Midlife Crisis Blues Band
Count Bracey and the Pleasuretones
Blues Band School
Erich Goebel
Michael May and the Messarounds
In the end, the Judges made the difficult decision of picking the winner. It was Count Bracey and the Pleasuretones
All of these competitors
The next event (Round 3) will be a band competition at Hot Blues and BBQ in Oxford on Saturday June 21st at noon.
