And, Dr. Humphrey is no stranger to Mormonism. In fact, in his February 8, 2004 online sermon, “Discerning Real Faith,” he stated that,
“I don’t know what you know about Mormonism. While I believe some Mormons are true Christians, there are some very unusual doctrines in the Mormon religion. While we believe that Jesus is the only Son of God, our Lord and Savior, the teaching of the Latter Day Saints is that Jesus is one among many who worked his way into becoming a god. While we, as Christians, believe that our salvation is based entirely on God’s grace given us through Jesus’ death and resurrection, they hold that people must supplement Christ’s work with their own righteousness”
But in the same article, Dr. Humphrey stated,
“Years ago I was asked by a nephew to do his wedding. There was an interesting catch. He was marrying a Mormon. He needed to convert to her faith in order for them to have a temple wedding, but he still wanted a Christian wedding as well. They talked to me about how to include his Christian family and her Mormon family and decided to have me do a separate ceremony at their local Mormon church. I agreed.”
And why did Dr. Humphrey perform a wedding at the Mormon church? He explains:
“I chose not to focus on our doctrinal differences that day. In my desire to bring both families together, I talked about what is common to all kinds of churches. I spoke about how easy it is for people to simply go through the motions of religion without genuine transformation
