His ‘Market Morning’ and ‘A Breton Dairymaid’ were shown in the same RBSA exhibition in 1881, painted by the artist who had a total of 279 works of art exhibited in Birmingham between 1864 and 1915.
Pratt became a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) in 1872 and he had a diverse range of styles including portraits as well as street scenes, rural and coastal views from Britain, France and Algiers.
Stephen Whittaker, managing partner at Fellows & Sons, said: “These paintings are sure to be of great interest to collectors across the West Midlands, especially with the artist’s Birmingham links. The city has a rich artistic heritage and we are delighted to be showcasing works by this talented painter in our auction.”
Pratt was also made honorary curator of the RBSA in 1873 and honorary secretary in 1882, holding both posts until his death in 1911.
Marie Considine, director of the RBSA, said: “We are delighted that two paintings by this committed RBSA supporter and artist are to be auctioned here in Birmingham.”
The sale will also feature a vase by celebrated ceramic artist William De Morgan, which is estimated to fetch from £2,000 to £2,500.
