Apr 24, 2008 – Speaking to members of the international and local Moroccan press, tourism and luxury property market boom continues in Morocco said the Moroccan tourism minister Mohamed Boussaid. He claimed that the tourism in Morocco is very healthy and there is no sign of slowdown.
Morocco attracted a total of 7.4 million international tourists last year and the figure for 2008 could top this. The Moroccan tourism minister said: Tourism's growth was 15 per cent and in Febrary 2008. So we are seeing an acceleration in tourism growth. The Moroccan tourism minister added that the country is set to meet its target of attracting ten million visitors from overseas in 2012. It claims that a number of high profile investors including Richard Branson have already purcharged property in Morocco. More than the first African Emerging Markets Forum, held in Rabat, Morocco from 7th-9th, brought together officials and experts from 18 countries. Hailed as the first major event of its kind, the forum provided an opportunity for exchange and dialogue between government leaders and world-renowned specialists. Former Swiss president Joseph Deiss said that for emerging country, Morocco is advincing at a steady and well-managed pace: Morocco, which has considerable potential, including its significant human resources, is on the right track with a solid institutional framework and stability which is highly conductive to development.
