BACKGROUND
AFI's Directing Workshop for Women (DWW) is dedicated to increasing the number of women working professionally as film and television directors by providing them with the education and resources necessary to take their first step toward career advancement by directing a short film. Established in 1974, this tuition-free program remains the only program of its kind in the nation. With a focus on narrative storytelling, this professional development program provides women with a unique avenue to formally develop, and then demonstrate their new skills as qualified screen directors. As a result of this exceptional training program, participants are able to advance their professional and economic lives, nurture their creative voices and find new access to the powerful communication form known as narrative filmmaking.
