Apr 23, 2008 – SAN DIEGO, CA – Barnes & Nobles Booksellers located at 2615 Vista Way, Oceanside, CA, will be hosting a special appearance by Dovie D. Dawson, the creative mind behind this adventurous novel. On Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 1:00pm, Dovie D. Dawson will be autographing and discussing once again her novel, Discovering Me: Reality from Within. Meet her, talk with her and ask her intriguing questions about her writing experience. Delicious complimentary appetizers and beverages will be available for all bookstore patrons.
The book’s main character, Gracie has everything a girl could ask for … an executive position with a Fortune 500 company, real estate, luxury vehicles, designer clothes and plenty of money in the bank. She has conquered every quest that has come into her path, every quest that is except finding someone to share it all with. Not just with anyone, but with someone of her caliber.
Gracie uses work to fill the void in her personal life which introduces stress and anxiety. She finds escape over laughter and cocktails with her childhood friend, Shelly, the only person in her life who is always there through thick and thin. Finally, Gracie meets Tyrone and the two begin a torrid affair. Days previously full of stress and uncertainty are now filled with daydreaming and fantasies. However, just as the blissful relationship is taking off the ground, Gracie suffers an on-the-job injury and is forced to cut back her hours. Tyrone suddenly becomes distant and wrapped up in his job, putting work before their relationship. Gracie ultimately loses her prestigious job, and is forced to reevaluate herself and her purpose.
Gracie constantly battles conflicts within herself. The only good memories of her childhood are of her grandmother and the morals and values she received from her. Gracie’s mother on the other hand, maintained a strained relationship with Gracie and refused to tell her anything about her biological father. She instead, invited an abusive step-dad into Gracie’s childhood, sparking a trail of violence, anxiety and numerous failed relationships.

Dovie D. Dawson was born in 1963 in Los Angeles. She is a double alumni at CSU Dominquez Hills with a BA and a MPA. She is a member of the board of directors for the San Diego chapter of the California Elected Women’s Association, and serves an appointed position for the San Diego County Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board.
Discovering Me is her first book. Dovie donates 10% of her book sales to her favorite charity, Mary’s House, a transitional home for women located in Escondido, California.
