New York City: A city once known for it's exceptional,
underground live music scene has been on the decline for years. World famous
venues like CBGB's, and the Continental have ceased live entertainment
due to high rents and 'lack of interest and support' as one club ower
put it best. There are a few venues left in the city, even though
support is minimal.
There is hope. Tall Black Girls, an all female local rock band that
has been around for about one year and has already won the hearts of a
leigon of fans. The band is facing the challenge of the digital,
downloadable music age where people don't feel the urgency to go out and see
live music. They have their work cut out for them, but Tall Black
Girls go at it head on and deliver a punch with their live performances.
The band has re-ignited a little something in each and every person that
has seen a show. 'Live performance is key, if you can't pull it off
on stage, then why bother?' That is a quote that this hard hitting band
stands by.
The girls have already achieved more in one year than most bands do
in ten. With a positive outlook, perseverence and good old fashioned
leg work, Tall Black Girls have packed everyone of their New York City
shows and have already traveled to Germany and the Czech Republic. Every
show a screaming success. Currently, there is live music available
for download on MySpace through Sno-Cap and several live performances
posted on YouTube. A proper studio recording is in the works. After
that, the sky is the limit for this one of a kind New York City rock band
that intends to keep the music alive.
