BROADWAY ACTRESS HOSTS LONG ISLAND GALA MUSIC EVENT
TO SUPPORT LOCAL ARTS

LOCAL YOUTH SHOWCASED IN FUNDRAISER FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF
WESTBURY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

(Westbury, NY – April 22, 2008) This spring, Long Island residents will have an opportunity to support the performing arts in their community while enjoying a night of legendary musical favorites performed by local talent.

To support young talent in Westbury, NY, the gala benefit concert, "A Celebration of Great Music,” will take place Friday, May 2 at 8 pm at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in Brookville, NY. Presented by Broadway actress Lynnette Carr-Hicks of Thoroughly Modern Millie fame, all proceeds raised during the event will help establish and fund the development of the LC Entertainment Performing Arts Center (LCPAC) in Westbury.

While LC Entertainment Performing Arts programming is underway, the participating local children currently do not have a performance space and must use multiple venues within Westbury to rehearse and perform.

“Through the gala benefit concert, we are hoping to raise enough money to finally have a non-profit performing arts center in our community,” said Carr-Hicks, who will also be performing during the concert. “I'm so thrilled to be working with so many talented young people and encouraging, motivated parents. This is not your ordinary show; it's like seeing a Broadway show in New York City.”

Conceived and directed by Carr-Hicks, the concert will include a musical repertoire featuring the talent and versatility of the Long Island community. Spanning more than 50 years of music—including soulful Motown favorites, sultry jazz standards, classic Broadway ballots and everything in between—the concert tells the story of America’s musical heritage and pays tribute to the greatest in the country’s pop musical history. The concert will pay tribute to the Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops, Etta James, Marvin Gaye, Billy Joel, Tom Jones, Cab Calloway and many others.

"A Celebration of Great Music” will take place in Tilles Center’s Concert Hall, located at 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville, NY. Concert tickets range from $26 to $36. VIP tickets can be purchased for $65 and include dinner prior to the concert, LC Entertainment Performing Arts souvenirs and a “meet and greet” with Carr-Hicks, supporters, local artists and the concert’s young performers.

Tickets are available by calling the Tilles Center at 516-299-3100, Monday through Saturday, 1 pm to 6 pm, or online at www.tillescenter.com. Tickets can also be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling 631-888-9000 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com.

About Lynnette Carr-Hicks
A highly acclaimed performer and director, Lynnette Carr-Hicks is passionate about bringing her love of musical theater and the performing arts to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn and perform.

A Westbury native, Carr-Hicks has worked with young people in the community for more than eight years. As founder and former director of the LC Community Choir of Westbury, she led her choir to perform at Madison Square Garden and, under her leadership, secured top places in the McDonald's Gospel Fest 2001, the Hicks Nursery Gospel Competition and the Pathmark Gospel Competition. Carr-Hicks and her choir were subsequently featured on 98.7 Kiss FM, LL Cool J’s "Camp Cool J", WABC-TV and UPN 9 News in New York. In 2004, Carr-Hicks wrote and directed Westbury High School’s Musical Revue. Her students were featured on several local broadcasts, including WB, Long Island News Channel 12 and Channel 55.

Carr-Hicks’ ongoing work in support of performing arts in Westbury has not gone unrecognized; she has received numerous awards from the Town of North Hempstead for her devotion to the cause, and her work with the choir earned her the local accolade of "a woman who dedicated her life to young heavenly angels."

Throughout her career, Carr-Hicks has worked with the best in the business, including Lalah Hathaway, Roy Hargrove, Antonio Hart, Al Jareau and Phil Collins. Her performance credits include Broadway’s Thoroughly Modern Millie (Muzzy) and leading roles in several off-Broadway and tri-state area regional productions.

Carr-Hicks earned her Bachelors in Music Business and Vocal Performance from Berklee College of Music, where she worked closely with accomplished contemporary jazz artist Walter Beasley. She completed her Masters in Education at C.W. Post, Long Island University. Carr-Hicks is a graduate of Westbury High School and a Uniondale High School Music Teacher.
