Margie Balter "Hollywood's Piano Teacher To The Stars" To Perform at Steinway Hall New York

Historic Steinway Hall in New York will host a special performance by Pianist Margie Balter on May 7, 2008 at 7pm.  The invitation-only event marks Balter’s first appearance in The Big Apple since the debut of her well received CD, “Music From My Heart.”  

Last fall Balter began a series of concerts and CD signings.  Her recent Valentine’s performance at The Grove, LA’s premiere shopping and entertainment complex, garnered rave reviews from the capacity crowd as they were treated to an evening of select piano pieces from her CD as well as from her body of work.  Recently added and open to the public, a performance and CD signing at Barnes & Noble – Lincoln Triangle in New York on May 8th at 6:00p.m.

Margie Balter earned the title “Hollywood’s Piano Teacher To The Stars,” by coaching actors Holly Hunter, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Cruise for Oscar caliber performances playing piano on film. Fourteen Films later, Margie’s clientele is a “who’s who” of Hollywood’s elite.

Music From My Heart: Solo Piano Pieces by Margie Balter, is a top ten favorite on Music Choice Soundscapes and has received critical acclaim from respected artists such as Taj Mahal and Thomas Newman.  Chuck Crisafulli of The Hollywood Reporter said, “One might turn to Margie Balter's 'Music From My Heart' for a master class in the artful subtleties of piano performance, but what grabs a listener is not simply brilliant technique but the emotional power of the works. Margie Balter’s  piano coaching career was catapulted when she signed on to coach Holly Hunter for the film (The Piano). With the help of Margie’s skillful direction and assistance, Hunter immersed herself in piano study for the film and went on to earn the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance. Following the success of The Piano, Balter coached Tom Cruise (Interview With A Vampire), Scarlett Johansson  (The Man Who Wasn’t There), Sandra Bullock (The Net ), Jack Black (The Holiday), Barbara Hershey (Portrait Of A Lady), and Kevin Spacey (Beyond The Sea).  And her work is recognizable in the MGM film Beauty Shop.  In addition to coaching film’s stars Paige Hurd and Djimon Honsou, she composed the piece “Finding My Wings,” which is also featured in the film.  She has performed for countless audiences, including private event performances for Dustin Hoffman, Michael Keaton, James Garner,  Michelle Pfeiffer and David E. Kelley.
