Sierra Scothorn, of Highgrove, California, is eight years old and has the most beautiful eyes and smile that light up any room. On March 02, 2008 her sister, Crystal, noticed a large lump on her neck. Her mother immediately put her in the car and drove her to Riverside Community Emergency Room where a chest x-ray was taken. This x-ray revealed a shadow on her left chest. Over the next couple of days a CT scan, MRI and PET scan were done on Sierra and she was admitted into Loma Linda Hospital.
Sierra’s doctor preliminarily diagnosed her with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer. A biopsy was taken and an infusion line was inserted to facilitate chemotherapy if infact the biopsy confirmed this diagnosis. The biopsy was confirmed to be positive and chemotherapy began immediately. Sierra is currently on an intense schedule of five different types of chemotherapy, scheduled to last approximately five months.
The Scothorn family consists of Father-John, Mother-Nancy, Daughters-Crystal, Desiree, Victorria and Sierra; Grandparents-
This unforeseen event has left Nancy unable to work in order to satisfy the everyday needs of Sierra. The Scothorn family is incurring many expenses through this difficult and trying time. The home will need to be modified before Sierra’s return, to ensure her health. I believe the communities of Grand Terrace and Highgrove have proven that we care deeply about all of our residents and have done much to aid our friends, family and neighbors in the past and I am asking that we do it once again for this family. I believe we can raise enough money to ease the stress of the Scothorn family during these trying and emotional times.
