FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Apr 21, 2008 – NationLink Wireless is “going green” this Earth Day by launching GreenLink, a cell phone recycling program. Starting April 22, NationLink will begin collecting used cell phones and accessories through its website, www.mynationlink.com/greenlink and at the company’s Cool Springs headquarters. NationLink will also pick up phones at corporate locations in the Nashville area.

For each phone donated through GreenLink, NationLink will make a donation equal to the value of the phone to Easter Seals Tennessee in the name of the cell phone donor.

“We have created a win-win-win with this unique program,” NationLink Wireless President Andy Bailey said. “We are making a positive impact on the environment, helping a very deserving Tennessee non-profit and our donors will receive a tax deduction for their efforts.”

Through GreenLink, NationLink will work with ReCellular, an industry leader in cellular recycling, to ensure that every phone is completely scrubbed of all data to protect client security. NationLink chose ReCellular because of their commitment to security and their no-landfill policy, which guarantees that phones that cannot be reused are recycled in an environmentally responsible manner.

“Most people have old cell phones lying around but they don’t recycle them because they either think it is too complicated or are concerned that the data on the phone will get in the wrong hands,” NationLink President Andy Bailey said. “Our priority was to create a secure and easy program to address the growing issue of electronic waste.”

In 2007, ReCellular diverted more than 1 million pounds of materials from landfills by recycling efforts.

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 130 million cell phones are retired annually in the United States alone. However, only 1% of retired cell phones are recycled or reused. Phones that are recycled can be broken down into component parts, such as plastics and precious metals, which can be used in products from kitchen cabinetry to circuitry boards.

NationLink surveyed its clients to determine whether they would participate in a cell phone recycling program. In that survey, almost 70% of respondents said they had old cell phones and batteries lying around and 95.5% said that they’d be willing to donate those devices.

Each phone donated through GreenLink will be assigned a value based on the age, condition and model of the device. That dollar amount will be donated to (Easter Seals of Middle Tennessee) in the name of the cell phone donor.
Whether helping someone improve physical mobility, return to work or simply gain greater independence for everyday living, Easter Seals Tennessee offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life's challenges and achieve personal goals. Nationwide, Easter Seals assists more than one million children and adults with disabilities and their families annually through a network of more than 450 service sites. Each center provides top-quality, family-focused and innovative services tailored to meet the specific needs of the particular community it serves.
To donate a phone through NationLink’s GreenLink program, simply log on to the website at www.mynationlink.com and print a pre-paid mailing label, or drop the phone off at NationLink’s corporate headquarters, 342 Cool Springs Boulevard, 2nd Floor, Franklin, TN. For corporations with multiple phones to donate, contact NationLink Wireless at 615-567-2222 to schedule a pickup.
