As the lights dim, the guests grow quiet, expecting the bride and groom to enter through the door. Instead fog rolls in and away, revealing a dancer holding a torch and standing next to an empty cage. In the next moment, magician Lovell mysteriously appears and -- with a few magical motions set to upbeat music -- the cage is lit with a flame and a whip of a cloth. Magically, the bride and groom appear and are introduced by Lovell.
Lovell is meeting a new trend in wedding planning: the growing number of couples who are looking for a theatrical or intriguing way to enter their wedding receptions.
Lovell, who has cut Paris Hilton in half for E! Entertainment and appeared on the Gene Simmons Show on A&E network, enjoys working with couples to make their dreams come true. He considers this one of those rare moments when he can help a couple share their excitement with friends and family, creating a memory of a lifetime.
Depending on the package chosen by the couple, costs can range from $3,500 to $10,000 for the magical appearance, with pricier arrangements adding additional illusions, including strolling magic throughout the reception and the groom chaining up the bride for an escape trick.
Lovell who has performed for wedding receptions from California to New York City said, “This is their moment to be in the limelight and my pleasure to turn on that light.”
