FlyRig.com, a New York City apartment rental listing website, launched a new rental auctioning system called MatchMaker. Apartment hunters looking for an agent create MatchMaker "auctions", where FlyRig agents bid to win that apartment hunter's contact information.
"MatchMaker is a win-win situation for everyone," says Adrian Liang, General Manager of FlyRig. "It's free to use, plus there aren't any contractual obligations for either side to work together. With over 250 brokers from 18 different agencies posting to our site, renters can instantly get in front of those agents willing to work hard to find them their next apartment."
Renters supply their contact information along with search criteria and auction parameters. These auction parameters can include how soon a response is needed and number of brokers they would like to work with. Once a MatchMaker auction has been created, agents will be able to bid using FlyRig credits. Agents with the highest bids will win that renter's contact information. Agents earn FlyRig credits by posting new listings, keeping listings up-to-date, and gathering reviews.
Neither renters or winning agents are bound to work with each other - the purpose of MatchMaker is to exchange contact information with those who are truly interested in finding apartments. The only requirement is that renters agree to supply accurate contact information to winning agents.
