Just six months after his role in “Lloyd's of London,” the 23-year-old actor was honored with having his prints placed in cement at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on May 31, 1937. During his short career Power made 51 films. Some people attributed his success to the fact that he was just so darn good looking. It was hard at times to get past his hunkiness and see that the guy really could act. There wasn’t much he was afraid to try. He made musicals like “Alexander's Ragtime Band” and “Second Fiddle.” He made westerns including “Jesse James” and “Rawhide.” He even gave comedy a try in films like “That Wonderful Urge,” and “Luck of the Irish.” But it was in classic swashbucklers like “The Mark of Zorro” that Power won me over. Hunkered down in a dark theater as a kid, I couldn’t get enough of the smooth hero in the black masquerade. As a heartthrob, he had screen presence in spades. Today collectors appreciate Tyrone Power memorabilia and there are two ways to look at collecting memorabilia related to the star. First there’s the simple pleasure of owning something related to Power that is no longer being made like vintage movie posters, lobby cards and original photos. Next there are items belonging to Power that will increase in value like costumes from his movies or original signed scripts. From an investment standpoint they make good sense.
