Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News (GEN) Presents Exclusive Podcast with Robert Langer, Ph.D., on New Polymeric Drug Delivery Systems

New Rochelle, NY - Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News (GEN)(http://www.genengnews.com/), will present a podcast with Robert Langer, Ph.D., on New Polymeric Drug Delivery Systems, on Thursday, April 10, 2008, 4 p.m.

Dr. Langer is institute professor, chemical and biomedical engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "Robert Langer is the foremost pioneer and innovator in modern drug delivery," says John Sterling, Editor-in-Chief of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News. "Dr. Langer and his team continue to advance research and development on novel biomaterials and tissue-engineered products. They are constantly pushing the technology envelope for new ways to deliver biodrugs and pharmaceuticals."

This podcast is imperative for researchers and biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device executives whose companies are engaged in drug discovery and development, as well as market makers, analysts, and investors who must be knowledgeable about the challenges and directions in therapeutic delivery. The podcast will be featured until April 17th on http://www.genengnews.com and then archived on the site.

Dr. Langer has more than 600 issued or pending patents. The patents have been licensed or sublicensed to over 200 pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, and medical device companies, many of which were launched on the basis of these patent licenses.  He served as a member of the FDA's science advisory board from 1995-2002 and as chairman from 1999-2002.

In this exclusive podcast, Dr. Langer discusses the drug-delivery projects currently drawing his team's attention in the laboratory. He addresses the application of nanotechnology to the creation of new drug-delivery systems. In addition, he specifically looks at what gene-therapy technology must overcome before it can become a viable delivery system. Dr. Langer also will present an update on his group's work in the field of tissue engineering, including the recent creation of a Gecko-Inspired Bandage.
