"By focusing on the health and vitality of the whole body, Chinese herbs and acupuncture helps reduce stress, increase vitality and make women look their best,” said Ruth Knill, Ph.D, Licensed Acupuncturist, National certified Herbalist (NCCAOM), the director of Arlington Acupuncture & Wellness of Arlington, MA (www.arlingtonacupunturewellness.com)
According to Dr. Knill, acupuncture can melt away age lines (through an intensive facial procedure) and support weight loss by increasing the metabolism. It can also improve hormonal imbalances, thus reducing facial acne, bags around the eyes and related beauty challenges.
"Chinese herbs complement acupuncture by lifting sagging skin, nourishing and moistening dryness, and regulating the immune system," said Knill, whose training in Chinese herbs includes five years of post graduate internship with master herbalist Dr Tao Xie. Knill currently supervises interns in the Herbal Clinic at the Aids Care Project and Pathways to Complementary Medicine, a major not-for-profit clinic in downtown Boston.
Knill noted the following herbs as playing an important role in improving women's looks:
•Codonopsis - reduces feeling of being tired and overwhelmed by the demands of work and home.
•Rehmannia-
•Foti- thought to bring color back to graying hair
•Epimedium-
•Astragalus-
•Goji- brightens the eyes.

Knill, also a mother, recommends the following additional steps for women who want to enhance their physical appearance:
1.Drink plenty of pure water: half your number of pounds in ounces. If you weigh 150 pounds you should drink 75 ounces of water, about 10 cups.
2.Make an infusion of goji berries and chrysanthemum flowers-you will need one handful of each per two cups of water. To create the infusion place the berries and flowers in a pot, pour boiling water onto the mixture, and let it steep overnight. Drink this infusion at least 3 times per week.
3.Get yoga lessons-yoga is a great way to stay healthy!
4.Instead of dieting, eat regular, medium sized meals.
5.Avoid processed foods, foods with excessive amounts of sugar, and white flour products.
6.Move around during the day- take walks and ride your bike as much as possible. Be more active.
