Author Advocates "No Kill" Texas .

An estimated 500,000 adoptable animals enter Texas shelters every year and 69% are euthanized. Anne Nason wants to change that. She wants Texas to become a "no kill" state.

April 6, 2008 - PRLog -- Nason's book "God's Unwanted Angels" was written to increase awareness about the millions of homeless cats in the United States, and what's being done to decrease the population humanely and find homes for those that are adoptable.

Nason became aware of how serious this problem was while living in Houston. "I had never seen so many abandoned animals before. People routinely dumped them at the side of the road like trash." She stated.
"Seventy one percent of the estimated 126,000 adoptable animals entering Houston shelters every year are euthanized. There are just too many cats and not enough homes. When I became caregiver to a homeless cat and her litter, I found that the same situation exists here."

Jamie Campbell of the Feral Cat Coalition in San Diego is one of many involved in humanely reducing the feral cat population. He stated that he's in favor of "anything that would promote the reduction in the suffering of homeless cats." His organization is working diligently to save cats and make the public more aware of this crisis. The FCC has had a high success rate in humanely reducing the numbers of feral cats and have spayed/neutered over 20,000 since 1992. www.feralcat.com

Nason provides readers with information and resources on every aspect of the cat overpopulation crisis, how the problem is dealt with, and programs that have been implemented to reduce the numbers of owner relinquished and feral cats. She said, "so many people have mistaken ideas about ferals, and I want to debunk the myths. The book was written not only to help the cats but make the public more aware of what can be done to humanely decrease their numbers."

Nason, a native New Englander living in Odessa, Texas is networking with rescuers and shelter owners across the country, all with the same goal, to end pet homelessness. She believes that humane education is essential, especially with children. "If they learn compassion for animals at a young age, they're more likely to be responsible pet owners as adults. I encourage parents and teachers to use the resources in the book to teach children about caring for and respecting animals.
