“I shoot weddings because I love being around happiness,” says Krisher, a photographer for most of his life. “It’s hard to see couples who can’t totally enjoy their day because important people aren’t there.”
So what is Krisher doing? He has two services he’s offering to help the families of local soldiers. First, he has a proprietary technology that uploads his photographs in real time, allowing far off relatives to see the ceremony through his lens. Whether loved ones are serving in Iraq or simply couldn’t make it, they get to see it all as it happens and then after the event. Secondly, he offers a 50% discount for members of the military.
Krisher knows how hard it can be to be separated from your loved ones. “My family moved around a lot when I was a kid,” he says. He acknowledges that it’s different when your family chooses to be away, but for many area families, that choice wasn’t theirs to make.
“We can’t all contribute to the war effort by pulling on a set of fatigues, but this is one thing I can do,” says Krisher, who studied documentary photography under Edward Grazda at Harvard University. “People can think what they want about the war, but soldiers have it harder than most civilians could ever imagine. You’ve got to do what you can to help out.”
Joie De Vie Photography was founded by Shaun Krisher in 2005. “Joie de vie” is a French phrase which means, loosely, "the joy of living." His “joie de vie” style of photography has earned him the respect of happy brides and award winning fashion photographers.
