Filipino Basketball Tournament on its first season

Dubai's FBC league will open it's first season tournament on April 11 at the Al Nasr Gym.

Dubai: The best Filipino basketball players in Dubai will battle it out at the opening of the FBC-Chikka Grill at Marco Polo Hotel Cup on April 11 at the Al Nasr Gym Dubai.

Celebrity player Atoy Co is coming to the emirate for the opening ceremony of the Marco Polo Hotel-sponsored basketball season.

Ted Magno, Filipino Basketball Centre (FBC) president, said fresh talents will grace the new season. "The FBC committee is excited to open the season and we are thankful to Chikka Grill and Marco Polo Hotel for supporting this league for the benefit of the Filipino crowd here in the UAE."

Magno said games are held in Sharjah on Fridays and Saturdays, and in Dubai from 8am to 9pm at the Al Nasr Gym stadium, where Chikka Grill will give an added twist by serving its Friday Pool Brunch of Filipino dishes for basketball fans.

“Everybody is so eager to open the league for this first season. The game will commence for 22 consecutive weeks and approximately will end on September 2008, and we are so glad with the turn over of the new added team members to play for the FBC this season. Above all we’re very much grateful for the concern and support of the Marco Polo Hotel to the Filipino Basketball Centre,” said FBC chairman Ramon Pizarras.

Chikka Grill Café and Restaurant will still be open for its Friday Pool Brunch from 11:30am-4:30pm. Diners get free use of the swimming pool, videoke and wireless internet access.
